The Spice Trade Crushed Red Pepper is made from freshly picked and dried Red Chili Peppers. Red Chili Peppers are believed to have originated in Central and South America, and have been harvested since 7500 BC. Once discovered, it was quickly brought back to Europe, and then traded in Asian countries finding their way into many dishes in the Indian Sub-continent.
Capsaicin is known to be the source of the heat in peppers. The Spice Trade Crushed Red Pepper is made from a variety of Red Peppers within the 30,000 to 50,000 Scoville heat unit range.
